Current project

AI Therapist

My current research interest is artificial intelligence and psychotherapy. AI Therapist is my independent research project, presented publicly as AI Therapy Research. I am exploring how different training methods shape a model's understanding of psychotherapy and its responses in conversation.

The project will compare specialised training using psychotherapy literature, conversational examples and expert feedback with giving a general-purpose model access to relevant literature. The aim is to learn which approaches help, which do not, and where the models fall short.

The project is at an early stage. The models are research prototypes, rather than a therapy service, and participation is not open yet.

Earlier research

Cross-addiction at PROMIS

Earlier in my career, I was part of a research group at PROMIS studying cross-addiction and the overlap between addictive and compulsive behaviours. I played a small part in this work, alongside colleagues who led the research.

The group's published work included research using the Shorter PROMIS Questionnaire to examine a range of addictive behaviours and how they occur together.
